Sunda Kelapa is Jakarta's Oldest Harbor

Sunda Kelapa is one of the historic harbors that has been inaugurated as a Cultural Heritage. Here, you can see how vast this port is filled with penisi ships. These ships still retain their original shape and are also still used to transport goods between islands. This harbor was once the capital of Jakarta before it became Jayakarta. This is due to the strategic location of the port and international trade routes.

Sunda Kelapa Harbor became known in the 12th century as a port visited by ships from China Japan, South India and the Middle East that brought porcelain, coffee, silk fabrics, and so on in exchange for spices and other plantation products.

This port was visited by inter-island ships and people's shipping with the main commodities of wood, basic necessities, groceries, and building materials.

Sunda Kelapa Harbor became the main shipping stopover in the archipelago which was built in 1527 during the Portuguese Colonial rule. Then on June 22, 1527, the combined forces of the Demak and Cirebon Sultanates led by Pengeran Jayakarta successfully expelled the Portuguese and changed the name Sunda Kelapa to Jayakarta until it eventually became Jakarta. Thus, June 22 was designated as the birthday of Jakarta.

If you visit here, don't forget to bring gloves and a hat because the weather around Sunda Kelapa Harbor is very hot which can burn the skin. But take it easy, this will pay off with the amount of knowledge we get from here.
