Arab Village Becomes a Unique Area Inhabited by Middle Eastern People

As the name suggests, the Arab village is inhabited by a majority of Arab or Middle Eastern descendants. This is because in the 18th century many migrants from South Yemen (Hadramaut) lived here. It is known that before it was known as Arab Village, Pekojan Village was inhabited by Koja Muslims (Indian Muslims) who came from Bengali. The name Pekojan is taken from the word Khoja or Kaja, an area in India whose inhabitants are Muslims and mostly work as traders.

As an old village, Pekojan Village has a number of historical relics such as the An Nawier Mosque (1760), Kambing Bridge, Langgar Tinggi (1829) and Al Anshor Mosque (1648) that still stand strong today. Although it is rare to find residents of Arab descent now, the atmosphere of the Arab village is still felt because of the historical relics whose traces still exist today.

If you visit here, you can feel the atmosphere of an Arab village surrounded by historic mosques. These mosques are hundreds of years old and are still actively used today. So when visiting here, you can worship in this historic mosque. This mosque building is still maintained so that people who worship feel at home here.
